Master of Arts Degree Requirements


The Master of Arts in Excercise Science, Physical Education, and Wellness is a 30-39 hour degree program. Teacher Licensure is available and requires an additional 20 hours to obtain such licensure. The program is available in a Thesis and Non-Thesis option. Degree requirements are summarized as follows:

Total Degree Requirement 33-39

Research hours may range up to 12 hours.

 

MA Exercise Science, Physical Education, and Wellness Non-Thesis Option
Requirement Credit Hours
Core Required Courses 9
Concentration Required Courses (EXCEPT Sport Management which is 18 hours) 15
Non-Thesis Research Project Course Requirement 6
Total Degree Requirement (EXCEPT Sport Management which is 33 hours) 30

At least 70% of courses taken must be at the 6000 level.

Degree Requirements - Thesis Option


Research Requirements for Thesis (9-12 hours)


Concentration Course Requirements (15-18 hours)


All concentrations require 15 hours of concentration coursework EXCEPT Sport Management which requires 18 hours of concentration coursework.

Fitness and Lifetime Wellness Concentration (15 hours)

Elementary & Middle School Physical Education Concentration (15 hours)

Teacher Licensure Option (EMPE requirement plus 20 credit hours for licensure)

Student must be admitted to Teacher Education program.

Licensure Requirement (20 credit hours)

(Only students who’s concentration is EMPE may take the additional 20 hours to gain the k-12 PE teaching license.)

Degree Requirements Non-Thesis Option


The Non-Thesis option differs from the Thesis option only in the area of Reseach and Thesis Requirement. 

Non-Thesis Project Requirement (6 hours)


All categories in the Thesis option apply to the Non-Thesis program of study except for the Research category which is replaced with this Project category.  

Course Substitutions


Course Substitutions are allowed upon approval of the graduate advisory committee, department chair/director, and dean of the college.
